Dip Treated Sheds

Dip treatment is a wood preservative process which involves the product manufacturer (in the case of dip treating, it only applies to wooden sheds). It involves dipping the garden structure into a vat of chemicals, allowing the preservative to seep into the wood for protection against insect infestation, rot and fungus. The chemicals used in dip treatment are often solvent-based preservatives like permethrins and azole or water-based preservatives like (ACQ) alkaline copper quaternary, copper azole (CA) or boron compounds.

Commercial manufacturers use these preservatives as they have the heavy-duty equipment to apply them effectively. The preservatives are applied to a variety of cladding options, which for our dip treated range are all shiplap tongue and groove cladding.

Dip treatment is a starting point for wood preservation, as dip-treated products do not last as long as pressure-treated wood products. Their preservation requires applying preservatives by the owner, and these add-home preservatives appear in the form of the following off-the-shelf protection chemicals:

• Creosote
• Protek 7 Star or Barrettine
• Cuprinol or Osmo
• Timmersol and other wood oils

The difference between them is down to personal preference and the fact that some change the colour of the wood, and others enhance its natural look.
